Silver Hawks Announce Silver vs. Gold

SOUTH BEND, IN - South Bend Silver Hawks President, Joe Kernan, was joined by Silver Hawks Field Manager, Mark Haley, and University of Notre Dame head baseball coach Dave Schrage to announce an exciting new partnership this morning.

The Silver Hawks and Notre Dame will face off in the first-ever Silver vs. Gold exhibition game on Wednesday, April 2. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m. and gates will open at 4:30 p.m. This year's exhibition game will be a fundraiser with a portion of the proceeds going to the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation to fight Niemann-Pick Type C. The Silver Hawks and Notre Dame plan to make this an annual event. Kernan stated, "This is a great opportunity to come out and enjoy an evening at the Cove and cheer on the 'Hawks and Irish while supporting the Ara Parseghian Foundation to fight Niemann-Pick".

While this is the first time the Silver Hawks and Notre Dame have gone to bat against each other, Haley and Schrage faced each other four times in college with Haley as catcher for the University of Nebraska and Schrage as an outfielder with Creighton University. The coaches are both excited to meet on the diamond at the Cove and start a new tradition. "Whenever you have the opportunity to showcase two great baseball programs, it is great for baseball and the entire community", said Schrage. Haley agreed stating that he has wanted to play Notre Dame since he got here. "It's great that John Baxter, Joe (Kernan) and Dave (Schrage) got together to move baseball to the next level in the area", said Haley.

Tickets for Silver vs. Gold, along with all 70 regular season Silver Hawks home games and Pops at the Cove, will go on sale Saturday, March 15 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets will be available at the Silver Hawks box office, online at www.silverhawks.com or over the phone at 574-235-9988. Fans, over the age of 18, who purchase their tickets in person at the Silver Hawks box office, will be entered into a drawing for four roundtrip tickets to Orlando, FL courtesy of Allegiant Air (tickets must be used by June 29, 2008).

Ticket prices for Silver vs. Gold are $10 for box seats and $6 for reserved seats. Students will receive a $2 discount with a valid student ID.
