
SIFL Names Player Of The Quarter/Kings-Pirates Rescheduled

LAKE CHARLES, La. (May 14, 2009) - The Southern Indoor Football League today (May 14, 2009) announced the winners of its "Player of the Quarter" award, naming two players each from the Acadiana Mudbugs and Austin Turfcats and one from the Louisiana Swashbucklers. Voting was conducted among the league's coaches and staff for performances during the first four weeks of the season.
Winners are as follows:
OFFENSE: Bo Bartik, QB, Acadiana Mudbugs. The veteran indoor quarterback has led the Mudbugs to a 3-0 record by completing 55.4 percent of his passes with a touchdown/interception ratio of 11 to 4. His 173.3 yards per game and 180 yards of total offense per game lead the SIFL. Bartik was a unanimous choice in the voting.
HONORABLE MENTION: Deron Ellis, QB, Austin; Freddie Harrison, QB, Louisiana; Omar Haughook, QB, Houma; Marcus Willridge, WR, Lousiana; Roland Hayes, RB, Texas.
DEFENSE: Kevin Earvine, DL, Austin Turfcats and Kimmee Lewis, DB, Acadiana Mudbugs (tie). Earvine is the SIFL's co-leader in sacks with three and sixth in tackles with 15. Lewis had three interceptions in the SIFL's inaugural game and leads the league with six interceptions and 18.5 tackles.
HONORABLE MENTION: Derrick Patterson, DB, Houma; Stephen Barrett, DB, Acadiana; Damien Huren, DB, Louisiana; Damon Richards, DB, Texas
LINEMAN: John Paul Jones, DL, Louisiana Swashbucklers. Veteran has 14 tackles, 2.5 sacks and six tackles for loss for the Swashbucklers.
HONORABLE MENTION: Joshua Sooter, Austin; Demon Benford, Austin; Charles Phillips, Houma; Mike Henry, Texas.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Darrick Wallace, WR/KR ,Austin Turfcats. Wallace has two returns for TDs this season and is averaging 22.5 yards per attempt on kickoff returns.
HONORABLE MENTION: Sammy Knight, Louisiana; Tommy Hebert, Louisiana; Chris Stropolo, Houma, Roman Gilmore, Texas.
The next "Player Of The Quarter" will cover weeks 5-7 of the season and will be announced Thursday, June 11.
Kings-Pirates Game Rescheduled
LAKE CHARLES, La. (May 14, 2009) - The Southern Indoor Football League game between the PASM Florida Kings and the Texas Pirates has been rescheduled from Sunday, May 17 to the weekend of June 12-14, Director of Operations Robert Winfrey announced today.
``The Pirates are exploring options for increasing their seating capacity at their present site as well as exploring other options,'' Winfrey said. ``With the Kings' co-operation, switching the date was an effortless process."
Game date and time will be announced as soon as it is finalized.
Week 5 of the SIFL's inaugural season features the Louisiana Swashbucklers (2-1) hosting the first place and unbeaten (3-0) Acadiana Mudbugs while the Austin Turfcats (2-1) host the Houma Conquerors (0-3) one week after the Turfcats ended the Swashbucklers' 20-game winning streak.
