SIFL Operations Smoother With Strong Insurance and Rules Enforcement In Place
Launching a start-up indoor football league has provided challenges, but SIFL President Thom Hager's efforts have been aided in two key areas: insurance and football operations.
Gallagher and Koster is the SIFL's official insurance provider, offering protection up to $25,000 per incident.
``It's one of the best deals I've ever been associated with in regards to insurance,'' Hager said. ``This is such a critical aspect to our long-term survival and credibility and I'm grateful for their willingness to work with us in providing the best coverage for our players."
Hager hasn't had to deal with many on-the-field problems and he wants it that way. He and his other owners agreed that Commissioner Dan J. Blum has the final say on all football-related matters and that Blum's decisions can not be overturned by the owners afterwards.
One of those rules is the "Darnell Lee Law" that prohibits an SIFL coach from becoming a player during the season. The rule is named after the LA Swashbucklers coach, who caused a mild firestorm when he activated himself out of necessity when the Bucs' were in Alaska.
"None of our coaches need to do that anymore,'' Blum said. ``The Lee law is helping eliminate any sort of credibility and on-field advantage issues.'' New SIFL E-Publication Debuts
Joining "Between The Walls" as a companion piece is "SIFL Gameday," which supplies readers with the premier collection of game recaps, pictures and stats from all the week's SIFL action.
``SIFL Gameday'' will be sent as promptly as possible upon conclusion of league play.
