Greeneville Astros News Release

GREENEVILLE, TN - Greeneville Astros infielder Miguelangel Sierra has been named the Appalachian League Player of the Week by MiLB.com for the week of July 4-July 10. Over five games during that span, Sierra batted .500 (9-for-18) with six runs scored, one triple, five home runs, five RBI, two walks, and a stolen base with an OBP of .571, SLG of 1.444 and OPS of 2.016.

This marks the seventh time in club history a member of the Greeneville Astros has earned league player of the week honors. Last season, the Astros had two players receive the honor when first baseman Connor Goedert and outfielder Hector Roa did so in back-to-back weeks in July.

Sierra was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent from Venezuela in 2014. The 18-year-old split the 2015 season between the Dominican Summer League and Gulf Coast League Astros teams where he batted .258 with 19 doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 20 RBI.

This season, Sierra has appeared in 14 games for the Astros with nine coming at shortstop and five at second base. For the season, he is leading the league with eight home runs, 12 extra-base hits (tied), and 47 total bases. Meanwhile, he ranks second with an .855 SLG and 1.210 OPS. Additionally, Sierra leads the Greeneville club with 11 runs (tied), 17 hits, and 13 RBI.
