Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Las Vegas, NV - Marshall McDougall's infield single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning plated the winning run as the Las Vegas 51's beat the Sidewinders 5-4 on Saturday night.

Randy Choate retired the first two hitters of the 12th inning but then walked Delwyn Young, hit John Lindsey with a pitch and walked Andy LaRoche. McDougall's slow chopper to short was fielded by Ronnie Merrill but the throw to the first was late allowing Young to score.

Choate (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the season. Brian Akin set Tucson down in order in the top of the 12th to earn his first win.

The Sidewinders rallied to tie the game after being down 4-1 going to the ninth. Robby Hammock's sacrifice fly scored a run and Matt Erickson's two out, two run double off the wall in left tied the game at 4.

Bill Murphy started and went 6 2/3 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits. He struck out nine and walked three. Murphy committed a throwing error on Wilkin Ruan's high chopper in the seventh that allowed two runs to score and gave the 51's a 3-1 lead. Las Vegas added a run in the eighth when Alex Romero dropped a fly ball with two outs.

The Sidewinders conclude their five game series with the 51's on Sunday afternoon at Cashman Field. Left-hander Greg Smith (3-2, 4.14) starts for Tucson against left-hander Eric Cyr (3-5, 6.14) for Las Vegas. First pitch is at 12:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at noon.
