New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Behind Kyle McNulty's 29 saves, the Scorpions shutout Odessa 5-0 on Wednesday night. It was the third straight win for the Scorps, a season high.

Coming into the game, the Scorpions had not scored in six penalty shot chances this season. That changed as Torren Delforte converted on his penalty shot 2:38 into the contest.

Physical play dominated most of the second period, with the Scorps clamping down defensively. The Jackalopes own the league's best power play but could not score on their four attempts in the second period.

New Mexico turned defense into offense as Torren Delforte caused a turnover and skated into the offensive zone. His shot was saved by goaltender Juha Toivonen but the rebound laid in front of the net and Neil Trimm grabbed the puck and shoveled it into the open net, making it a 2-0 lead for the home team.

The Scorpions put the pedal to the metal and scored three goals in the third period. Craig Macdonald undressed an Odessa defenseman then split the legs of Toivonen to score his 26th goal of the season.

Trimm scored his second goal of the game 34 seconds after the previous goal. The Scorpions went to a two-man advantage late in the game, and Jordan Foote scored his first professional goal.

On Friday and Saturday Laredo comes for a weekend set. Valentine's Day is Pink in the Rink Night to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All three games start at 7:15 p.m.

Group tickets specials are available for as little as 10 people. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
