Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers (36-35, 2-2 2nd Half) were held to just two hits in a 4-0 loss to the Mississippi (31-42, 2-2 2nd Half) on Friday night at MGM Park.
LHP Brandon Knarr (L, 0-1) got the start for Biloxi and retired the first six batters he faced. Mississippi scored their first run in the third inning on an infield single, a double and a sacrifice fly.
On the other side, RHP Darius Vines (W, 4-4) allowed a walk in both the first and second inning but did not let either runner advance into scoring position. The Shuckers' wouldn't get their first hit off the righty until the sixth inning when Yeison Coca lashed a lead-off base hit to left but was cancelled out on a double play. Noah Campbell then singled up the middle, bringing up Andruw Monasterio, who hit a frozen rope right at Vines for the last out in the sixth.
Knarr returned for the top of the seventh and allowed a walk and a double, just his third hit allowed, before departing for RHP Robbie Hitt. Hitt recorded the first two outs in the frame without allowing a run to score but a single from Logan Brown brought home a run to make it 2-0 Mississippi. The M-Braves added single tallies in the eighth and ninth inning to push their advantage to 4-0.
In the ninth, Joey Wiemer worked a two-out walk, but LHP Jake Higginbotham struck out the next batter to finish off the game. It is the first time the Shuckers have been shutout this season since April 29 against Pensacola.
With the series even at two games apiece, the Shuckers and M-Braves meet again on Saturday night at MGM Park. The Shuckers will send RHP Noah Zavolas (2-1, 6.34) to the mound against Mississippi RHP Tanner Gordon (4-4, 7.21) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be seen on MiLB.TV and heard locally on WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 or online here.
