Shreveport-Bossier's wins first American Association Championship
Published on September 10, 2010 under American Association (AA) News Release
Richard Salazar and Hector Carrasco combined on a 4-0 shutout to seal Shreveport-Bossier's first American Association Championship Friday night. The Captains took the first three games of their best-of-five series with Sioux Falls to sweep to victory. Salazar pitched the first seven innings for the Captains, striking out five and surrendering just four hits before giving way to Carrasco, who worked the final two frames. Carrasco surrendered a one-out single to Reggie Abercrombie, but buckled down to retire Sioux Falls two best hitters, Beau Torbert and Brandon Sing, to secure the win. Pheasants starter Ryan Rodriguez held the Captains at bay for the first five frames, but ran into trouble in the sixth when Brian Peterson connected for a homer to lead off the inning. Shreveport-Bossier grabbed another on a Palmer Karr Jr. sacrifice fly later in the inning. The Captains grabbed their final two insurance runs in the eighth when Andres Rodriguez smacked a two-run two-out single. The Captains outscored the Pheasants 10-2 in the series and were led by Peterson and Karr, who each drove in seven runs during the postseason.
