The Showboats who recently went through a tough in-house change throughout the week, played a really tough game. Benjamin Mireles(Founder/Head Coach) feels he has done a great job with his organization and team but felt he needed a change. Mireles has had some personal and family situations he has been obligated to oversee and has to place his team under new ownership. Assistant Coach, Marlon Minifee will be taking over the head coaching duties as well. "I started a great thing here in San Antonio and we have a great group of talented players. This was a very hard decision for me to make, but I know that there were things I needed to change within the organization. It is good to see someone can come in and continue the trend that I am leaving behind. It is sad to let go of something you have dreamed about and worked really hard on putting together. I had to think about the teams in our division, the league, the players, coaches, and the fans. I could not see my team folding with the way these guys have been playing and what the fans wanted to see. The league, teams, players, fans, and coaches deserve more than that and that is why the team is still in operation. It was better to keep this team going than to give up everything just for my certain needs." said Mireles "I could have just folded like every other team but with the kind of heart I have by thinking about people and their families, I did not want to be considered like any other team. I can honestly say my San Antonio team never folded. Thanks for this opportunity and experience in my first year in this league and I am sorry I must move forward but I am sure I will be back and possibly with another team."

In the Showboats last game of the year(2008) until they start back up Jan 2nd in Houston, the Showboats and Takers fought in a tough game Friday night after starting late. The Takers stayed close in this game as the Showboats never trailed in this game. "This was a really good game and the guys really played well together. They deserved this win before they leave for the holidays for a couple of weeks." said assistant coach Bowdy. "We played a lot of inside out and Kenny(Wilson) and Isaiah (Allen) did a very good job.

The Showboats finished a long night with a win over the Takers 117-103. "We got beat up in the paint again but kept a lot of fresh legs in the game. We were able to continue to run and everyone got a chance to be apart of this win before the holidays" said Bowdy. It seems that the Showboats are starting to thrive as a team and have now won 5 of the last 6 games. With their only loss coming from the Mustangs in San Antonio, the Showboats are looking to pursue a division title and possibly an ABA title this year as they are in first place with a record of 9-1 overall and 5-1 in their season, and ranked 3rd in the National ranking through the ABA polls. "If we continue to play hard, work together, and play on a game to game basis, we can definitely bring a title to San Antonio." said Coach Minifee

The South Texas Showboats are doing very well right now and this team will definitely do a great job in a great city. It is good to see a lot of local players working hard together on the floor and being as successful as they are. There is plenty of talent in the San Antonio area and they definitely found a great core for this team. The Showboats are trying to make a statement in the ABA but we all know their are plenty of games left to play this season(24).
