Inside the Numbers

3-0 - The overtime record of the Rapid City Rush in the playoffs this season. The Rush have topped Bossier-Shreveport twice in their current series in extra time and won game four versus Missouri with an overtime triumph. Les Reaney has scored two of the game winners and Corey Laurysen scored the other in game three versus the Mudbugs.

8 for 22 - The power play of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs who went 2 for 6 in Wednesday's overtime loss to Rapid City giving them four straight games with two power play goals. In the post-season, the 'Bugs are 11 for 35 ranking first among the remaining four teams with a 31.4% success rate.

.915 - The save percentage of Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Parker Van Buskirk who has played in each of the last two games going 1-1 after being forced into the spotlight due to the injury of Ken Carroll. The Mudbugs have seen their top two goaltenders fall to injury in the post-season but whoever has been between the pipes has been sharp and consistent as they are allowing just 2.86 goals per game as a team. Carroll's status for the weekend is unknown as the 'Bugs trail 2-1 in their series versus the Rush.

1-2 - The record of the Odessa Jackalopes when leading after the first period. Early success has not been an indicator for a win for Odessa who has scored first in seven of their nine playoff games going 5-2 in those contests. The Jacks scored first in game's one and two in Odessa in their current South Finals series with Allen but on Wednesday, the Americans scored twice in the first period before the Jackalopes scored.

A Look Back

April 16, 2008 - On this date in 2008, the Texas Brahmas and Colorado Eagles combined for 110 penalty minutes as the Brahmas defeated the Eagles 5-2 in game three of their best-of-7 Northern Conference Finals series ultimately won in seven games by the Eagles. The win by the Brahmas gave them life as they moved the series to a 2-1 advantage for Colorado. Brett Jaeger made 42 saves earning the win and Grant Jacobsen scored a pair of goals. BOX SCORE

Series Notes

Amateur Comes Through - A big part of post-season success can sometimes be the extra players teams are allowed to carry that are amateurs. One of those successes was Rapid City defenseman Corey Laurysen who joined the Rush after completing a four-year college career at Sacred Heart University. In his college career, the 5-11, 195-pound d-man scored seven goals in a 140 games but his first professional goal will be long remembered as it came in overtime of a 3-2 game three win giving the Rush a 2-1 series advantage.

All-American Line - Although only Nino Musitelli actually was born in the United States, the Allen American line of Musitelli, Bruce Graham and Justin Bowers has been top shelf in the post-season combining for 15 goals and 26 assists in 10 games. Musitelli leads the way with six goals and nine assists, Bowers has five goals and nine assists and Graham has four goals and eight assists. The trio has combined for 41 of the Americans 84 points in the playoffs, as a team. In Wednesday's game three win over Odessa, the trifecta stole the show with 11 points in the game led by Musitelli and Bowers both putting up four points (a goal and three helpers apiece).

Pierce Hot for the Jacks - One of the lone bright spots for the Jackalopes in Wednesday's 5-2 loss at Allen was forward Jeff Pierce who scored both Odessa goals and now has four goals in his last four games and leads the team in the post-season with seven scores (six of them coming even strength). The second-year player has 11 post-season goals in 22 Presidents' Cup games.

Second Period Prophet - Much can be said about the second period and what it means to the two remaining teams in the South as Allen has been dominate in the middle frame outscoring their opposition 14-6 in 10 playoff games and the Jacks have been on the other end of the spectrum being held scoreless in the second period, outscored 9-0. In the series, the Americans have four second period goals to the Jacks zero.
