Shots From The Point

November 24, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Turkey Day Affair

The Tulsa Oilers (11-3-0) will look to extend their current seven-game win streak on Thanksgiving when they host the Missouri Mavericks (4-8-1) at the BOK Center. Tulsa has been unstoppable since November 7th, the date of their last loss. Over their win streak (the longest in seven years for Tulsa and just one win shy of tying the franchise record), the Oilers have outscored their opposition 32-20 winning four of those games by one-goal (Tulsa is 5-1-0 in one-goal games). The Mavericks have lost back-to-back games including one to Tulsa on Nov. 20 by a score of 5-4. Tulsa has yet to lose a game on home ice going 7-0.

Week of Milestones

Several milestones were reached last week and some of the all-time league leaders climbed the charts. Mississippi watched as two events happened with Louis Dumont playing his 1000th professional game on November 20th and defenseman Derek Landmesser becoming the second defenseman and 10th player overall to record 400 assists in the CHL on November 21st. Corpus Christi center Chris Richards passed former Oklahoma City defensemen Hardy Sauter for fourth on the league's all-time games played list with 591 games.

Killer Bees Buzzing Again

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (8-5-2) have been a streaky team this season and once again they appear to be streaking in the right direction winning back-to-back games. The Bees won just once in their first four games this season but have gone 7-2-2 in their last 11 games. Strong play by Jesse Bennefield (goals in each of his last five games, one shy of the RGV franchise record) and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller (the reigning Oakley CHL Player of the Week) has led the team to a 3-1-1 mark over their last five games playing all five games against playoff teams from a year ago (Laredo, Texas, Odessa and Corpus Christi). The Bees, who have had one of the toughest schedules in the league thus far, won't get any breaks this week as they host Bossier-Shreveport on Wednesday and then play at Amarillo, Odessa and Allen this weekend.
