Three Things You Need to Know
1.) Milestone Highlights Rush's Week- The Rapid City Rush (7-0-0) had a week to remember in Prescott Valley winning three straight games against the Arizona Sundogs (1-6-1) and keeping their perfect season going. The Rush will get two more cracks at the Sundogs this weekend with the venue changing to South Dakota on Friday and Saturday night. The Rush are 31-8-0 all-time versus the Sundogs. Konrad Reeder scored four goals in the three games last week and was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week. Another big moment of the series came on Saturday night when Scott Wray became just the fifth player to score 300 CHL goals joining Joe Burton, Travis Clayton, Jason Duda and Paul Jackson. The goal was also Wray's 100th with Rapid City.
2.) Mavs Perfect Start- The Missouri Mavericks (6-0-0) continued their unblemished start to the season beating St. Charles and Tulsa on the road, ending their season-opening road trip with a 5-0 mark, and then heading home for their opener on Saturday where they beat the Denver Cutthroats by a 6-2 count. The Mavs played in front of a record crowd of 5,850 as Andrew Courtney stole the show on the ice with a hat trick and two assists (was a +5). Missouri is outscoring the opposition by two and a half goals per game and this week has a home-and-home with Wichita on Friday and Saturday.
3.) Rivals Clash in Tulsa- Maybe no two teams had higher expectations heading into the season than the Wichita Thunder (1-4-3) and the Tulsa Oilers (1-5-2). Wichita has been to back-to-back CHL Finals falling to Fort Wayne in 2012 and Allen in 2013, while the Oilers made maybe the biggest roster overhaul of any club during the off-season. The two rivals meet for the first time this season on Wednesday night at the BOK Center. It will be the 237th all-time meeting between the two teams with Wichita owning 123 wins and Tulsa owning 113 wins. Tulsa is coming off their first win of the season on Sunday in Allen and Wichita has dropped five straight games (0-3-2), four of those by one goal.
By the Numbers
5: The number of points the Brampton Beast (4-3-1) earned during their five-game road trip after winning their last two games of the journey. The Beast scored three first period goals en route to a 3-2 win over Wichita on Friday night and then scored three times in the third period to defeat the Quad City Mallards, 4-3, on Saturday night. Andrew Fournier led the team with four goals and five points during their five-game trip that went through Rapid City, Denver, Wichita and Quad City. The Beast host Allen on Thursday night as they begin a three-game series (Thursday, Friday and Sunday).
One-Timers
-Rapid City defensemen Tristin Llewellyn (+11) and Ryan Palmer (+8) are one, two in the CHL in plus/minus combining to be a +19 through seven games this season.
-Denver forward Troy Schwab has multiple-point games in six of the eight games he has played this season and leads the league with 14 points (3-11=14). His +8 plus/minus rating is tops among all forwards.
-Quad City defenseman Mike Monfredo has assists in pro-best five straight games. Last season, Monfredo had a four-game assist streak in January but other than that, never recorded back-to-back games with a helper.
-Allen is 5-0 on the road this season as they head to Ontario for three games with Brampton. The Americans have won four of those five road games by just one goal and on the season are 6-0-1 in the close ones.
-The Tulsa Oilers have scored the first goal in the game five times in their eight games so far tying them for the most in the CHL (Denver). The Oilers are just 1-3-1 in those games where they strike first.
-St. Charles forward Chad Costello is currently riding a five-game point streak with four goals and five assists during his stretch.
-Wichita is 1-3-3 in one-goal games tying with Allen for the most games decided by a goal this season.
-Despite dropping all three games to Rapid City, the Arizona Sundogs penalty kill was top notch last week killing 18 of 19 power play chances the Rush had. The strong play has moved Arizona up to fifth in the league with an 87.8% PK.
