Brahmas Take Road Win in Game One

The Texas Brahmas lead the Colorado Eagles 1-0 in their best-of-seven battle for the Ray Miron President's Cup thanks to a 5-3 Game One victory on Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Tyler Skworchinski scored two goals giving him a league-leading 11 in the post-season. So far in the post-season, Skworchinski has scored five game winning goals tying him for the most ever in a single CHL playoff season. Brett Jaeger made 31 saves earning his ninth win of the playoffs.

Game One, Quite an Indicator

The Texas Brahmas have a 1-0 lead in their quest for the franchises' first CHL Championship and they also may have history on their side. In the 16 previous final's match-ups, the team that has won Game One has gone on to win the series 15 of 16 times. Only the Huntsville Channel Cats dropped the first game of the finals and came back to win the Cup (1999). Coincidentally enough, that Huntsville team was coached by Eagles President/General Manager Chris Stewart and was the first of his three CHL Championships as a coach.

Quick Strike Capability Gives Brahmas Control

While trailing 3-2 in the third, period, the Texas Brahmas scored two goals in 12 seconds to tie and take the lead on the Colorado Eagles in their 5-3 Game One victory. Tyler Skworchinski scored his second of the game giving him 11 in the post-season followed quickly by Scott Sheppard scoring his 8th goal of the post-season. The Eagles were never able to recover after falling behind in the third period and eventually Jordan Cameron's goal stretched the lead to two-goals.

Watching from the Stands

The Colorado Eagles were without both Fraser Filipic and Ryan Tobler during Game One's loss. Filipic was placed on season ending injured reserve after suffering an injury during the Eagles series versus the Mississippi RiverKings. Colorado is hopeful that Tobler can return in the finals after suffering a lower body injury in Game Four of the Northern Conference Finals. For Texas, they were without Travis Banga who was a healthy scratch..

Game's Two and Six on Altitude Sports and Entertainment

The CHL Finals will have a national platform for Game's Two and Six (if necessary) thanks to Altitude Sports and Entertainment. The regional sports network announced on Thursday that they will carry two games of the CHL Championship with Eagles broadcasters Tori Holt, Kevin McGlue and Lauren Gardner working the game. Altitude is the official sports broadcasting network of both the Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets and is available on many cable outlets across the country and on DirecTV and Dish Network.
