The Albany Empire bring back LB/FB Trevon Shorts and WR/DB Marquel Wade for 2023 Season
Albany, NY: The Albany Empire announced today that the team has re-signed LB/FB Trevon Shorts and WR/DB Marquel Wade for 2023 National Arena League season. Both Shorts and Wade made significant impacts for the Empire in 2022 on their way to a National Arena League title. Shorts a native of Prince George's County, Maryland has his sights set on another season in Albany as he looks to win his third championship since being in Albany. Shorts was a part of both the Empire's NAL Championships in 2021 and 2022. Wade a native of Jacksonville, Florida joined the Empire in the early stages of the 2022 season. However, Wade quickly made his impact known not only making plays as wide receiver and defensive back in the passing game but as a return specialist as well.
Marquel Wade ended his 2022 season with 31 receptions, 350 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns over the course of nine games. Wade also tallied up 14 tackles, 6 pass breakups and 2 interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. Wade's ability to adapt easily to the Ironman rules of the National Arena League makes him a dynamic piece to the Empire roster.
Trevon Shorts appeared in ten games for the Empire during his 2022 campaign. With a constant presence on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball, Shorts consistently had a nose for the football ending the year with one forced fumble and four rushing touchdowns. Shorts also has made a strong impact on his community during his time in Albany. During his downtime in 2022, Shorts spent time over at local, Albany High School assisting with the football team.
