Shootout Goals Give Icehawks Preseason Win Over Flint

PORT HURON, MI - Port Huron Icehawks forwards Nick Lindberg and Mikael Bedard both scored in a shootout on Friday to give the Icehawks a 3-2 win over the Flint Generals in preseason action at McMorran Arena.

The two teams traded goals in regulation. Icehawks newcomer Cory Stillman kicked off scoring with a power play goal at 10:31 in the first period. He was assisted by George Halkidis and Lindberg.

Flint got on the board early in the second with a Solomon McCann goal at 1:08. The game remained tied until early in the third period when Nathan Ward scored at 2:43 to give Flint the lead. Late in the third, Port Huron tied the game once again with a goal from Mike Kinnie at 16:30. Kinnie was assisted by Daniel Tetrault and Kris Vernarsky.

After a five minute overtime went scoreless, the game went to a shootout. Lindberg and rookie Bedard both found the back of the net to end the game. Tomas Janak scored for Flint, while Tyler Howells and John Ronan both missed on their attempts.

The two teams renewed their rivalry with two fights. Port Huron's Mike Bray fought Craig Cescon and Icehawks forward Jason Kostadine dropped the gloves with Jozef Wagenhoffer.

Adam Russo and A.J. Bucchino split duties in goal for the Icehawks. Russo made 16 saves on 17 shots, while Bucchino earned the win with 14 saves on 15 shots.

The Icehawks wrap up preseason action with two road games. They travel to Flint to take on the Generals tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. and will face the ECHL Toledo Walleye on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Icehawks open the 2009-10 regular season on Saturday, October 17 at home versus the Fort Wayne Komets.
