The Portland Shockwave's pre-2003 season kicks off with its first of several tryouts to be held at Columbia Annex (North Portland off Lombard and Woolsey Streets) on Saturday, September 24th from noon to 3pm. Attached is the informational flyer detailing this event/try-out. The Shockwave welcomes fans, supporters, and other interested parties to attend free of charge to witness a professional women's tackle football tryout and the athletes and processes involved in such a tryout.
Additionally, the Portland Shockwave is proud to announce its acceptance into the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) for the 2003 spring season. The IWFL, formed in 2000, serves as the highest standard in women's football leagues throughout the country. It hosts several of the country's top-ranked teams, including the Philadelphia Liberty Belles and the New York Sharks (East Conference) and the Austin Outlaws and Corvallis Pride (Western Conference). The Shockwave hopes to continue it's winning 2002 season, which was capped by an unfortunate Championship Loss. The addition of the Shockwave to the IWFL is sure to promise an incredibly entertaining football experience epitomized by a higher level of play and a variety of teams for the public to enjoy!
