Detroit Shock News Release
DETROIT SHOCK HEAD COACH BILL LAIMBEER: (On the game): "That's typical of how we play against them, a lot of energy. We match up well with them, very well, and it showed today."
(On having home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs): "That was important, that was one of our goals this year was to make sure we had it in the first round, especially. We'd like to have it overall, but we don't, but we'll take what we got, now its prepare for Indiana."
(On the match-up with Indiana): "They play solid defense, they'll limit our second shots, they box out well, so we have to make sure that every possession counts against them, don't turn it over, work hard on offense getting good shots."
DETROIT SHOCK GUARD DEANNA NOLAN: (On the game): "We wanted to come out and take it to them, attack, rebound, run them. We knew that they were going to have two of five starters out. We knew at the same time that their bench still had people that are capable of keeping them in the game, make shots, make plays for them. We came out, played hard, stuck it to them."
(On the match-up with Indiana): "They're a great defensive team, so I think the game is going to be a low field-goal percentage game. I think we still can win one at their place. Its going to be nice to have home-court advantage this time, we just need to get that one in Indiana and home-court is set for us."
DETROIT SHOCK GUARD KATIE SMITH: (On the game): "They rested some people and took care of business the throughout the season, so this game didn't mean anything to them. We took care of our end and played hard, the starters and the bench, and everybody got some minutes. Now we have to turn our focus onto Indiana."
CONNECTICUT SUN HEAD COACH MIKE THIBAULT: (On the game): "It was better then the other night in some ways, actually. Regular season's over, that's what I'm happy about."
(On their goals for the game) "We were shooting to try to play hard, get some different combinations, get Nykesha (Sales) some minutes, get our young players that have never played in this building some experience and we did all of that. Some of it was good. Some of it was bad. I was happy that after we got behind early we got ourselves back in the game. Detroit played very well. They shot the ball really well and we did some things we don't even practice today to try to work on in game situations. What we got out of it, basically, was all but one player got out of it without injury. We've got one injury, which I'm not happy about. Then we'll start worrying about Washington."
CONNECTICUT SUN FORWARD NYKESHA SALES: (On preparing for the game) "You have to go out there with a mindset like you want to win. You have to play hard and do the little things right. The game meant a lot more to them than us but you still don't want to go out there and lollygag. It can be good practice for the playoffs. It gives us a chance to try some things but it definitely means more to them but you still have to go out there and compete."
(On Cheryl Ford) "Cheryl is a presence in the paint. She works hard. She's very strong, very athletic. She knows how to finish. She's a hard nosed rebounder on both ends of the floor and strong enough to finish when she's fouled."
