Shock invite youth to "Be Fit" picnic extravaganza

Auburn Hills, MI - WNBA Detroit Shock stars, Katie Smith, Cheryl Ford, Kara Braxton, Plenette Pierson, Jaqueline Batteast and Sabrina Palie will host the first ever Shock "Be Fit" Picnic Extravaganza as part of the Shock's Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself program and WNBA Cares initiative. The picnic will take place on July 18 from 1-3 p.m. at Bloomer Park - Stone Shelter in Rochester Hills (located at 345 John R Road on the North End of John R, North of Avon Road). Joining the Shock players will be Shock coaches, the Shockwave dance team and mascot Zap. The event is complimentary and is open to the public. Those interested in attending should contact the Shock Community Relations Department at 248-377-8243.

"We are very excited about being able to have fun with our young fans in an outdoor, family picnic-type atmosphere," said Smith, who was recently named a WNBA All-Star for the sixth time in her career. "My teammates and I encourage anyone who would like to have some fun and free food on a summer day to come and hang out with us, as we hope to make this a Shock summer tradition."

The Shock "Be Fit" Picnic Extravaganza will include the Pistons/Shock Year-Round Hoops truck, a dunk tank, face painters, food provided by Kalloway's Restaurant, components of "Shockfest" (interactive inflatables), music from the Shock's official DJ Earl "Mixin' McKinney, and much more! Raffle tickets and Shock charitable flip-flops will also be available to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure - Detroit Chapter.

Shock Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself is presented by Lennox, Air Master, DMC, Ford, Health Alliance Plan, Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Michigan Army National Guard, T&C Federal Credit Union Michigan Hand & Sports Rehabilitation Centers and Beaumont Hospitals.
