Shock Assistants to Lead Dribble for Diabetes

TULSA, Okla. (August 26, 2011) -Tulsa Shock Assistant Coaches and Tracy Murray and Kathy McConnell-Miller will lead the WNBA's Dribble to Stop Diabetes Basketball Clinic on Sunday August 28 at 11:30 a.m. at the BOK Center to help raise awareness of diabetes.

Dribble to Stop Diabetes is a national campaign developed by the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the NBA Development League, in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association and sanofi US. to encourage basketball fans to live an active, healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about diabetes prevention, management and the potentially serious health complications that can be associated with the disease.

"Our hope is that this clinic will raise awareness about the disease in Tulsa and the surrounding area," Shock President Steve Swetoha. "We want to provide our fans with pertinent information on diabetes so they, along with their families, can be prepared to fight the disease."

Assistants Murray and McConnell-Miller will join the Director of the Shock Basketball Academy, Joe Crawford, who will be leading the clinic at the BOK Center.

Murray played 12 seasons in the NBA for six different teams. A graduate of the University of California - Los Angeles, Murray had his best pro season in 1995-96 with the Toronto Raptors when he averaged 16.2 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 42.2 percent from the three-point line.

McConnell-Miller was the head basketball coach at the University of Tulsa from 1999 to 2005. From 2005 to 2010, she was the head basketball coach at the University of Colorado.

Both Murray and McConnell-Miller have been serving as assistants under Interim Head Coach Teresa Edwards since July 2011.

The free clinic for children ages 7-to-13 will include personal instruction from Murray and McConnell-Miller to help sharpen basketball skills, an appearance from Volt, a Volt bobblehead and two complimentary tickets to that afternoon's Shock game against the Connecticut Sun at 3 p.m. at the BOK Center.
