Shock Acquires Angelina Williams in Trade with Mercury

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has acquired Phoenix Mercury forward Angelina Williams in exchange for Detroit's two 2007 third round draft picks.
"Angelina is a player that we had hoped to have in Detroit last season," said Laimbeer. "Unfortunately, she was selected sooner than we anticipated, but we're happy to be able to add her to our roster for 2006. She's young and athletic and her style of play will fit in well with the things we're trying to do in Detroit this year."
Williams is in her second season in the WNBA and played her rookie campaign with Phoenix after the Mercury selected her in the second round, 18th overall, in the 2005 WNBA Draft. She appeared in 16 games last season averaging 2.5 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 9.3 minutes per game.
Detroit had two 2007 third round draft picks in its possession after acquiring Minnesota's third-rounder in a trade that brought them Jacqueline Batteast in exchange for Ambrosia Anderson and the Shock's second round pick in 2006.
