Arkansas Stars News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - The Arkansas Stars announces that James Shiver has been hired as the Director of Football Operations.
James Shiver was the Head Coach for the Montgomery Maulers in their 2005 inaugural season. "He was the first coach in the league to ever have a winning inaugural season. He took the Maulers to the second round of the playoffs," said Ron Hargrave, CEO of the Arkansas Stars. "Shiver was the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for four years from 2001 to 2004, with Lake Charles (LA) Landsharks, one of the top teams in the NIFL. During that time, Lake Charles compiled a 42-13 record with three playoff appearances.
In 2001, Lake Charles won its first of three straight division titles by compiling an 11-1 record and reaching the NIFL semifinals. In 2002, Shiver's high-powered offense averaged 50.6 points per game on the way to a 13-1 record and another playoff appearance. In 2003, the Landsharks went 11-2 and reached the second round of the playoffs before losing 43-41 to eventual league champion Ohio Valley. Two years ago, beset with injuries, the Landsharks finished 7-7 and was out of the playoffs for the first time in team history.
A former college football player at Louisiana-Lafayette, Shiver played defensive back for two seasons of indoor football with Lafayette (IPFL) before joining the coaching ranks.
