Shipp, Sykes and Harvey Earn Week 14 Honors

CHICAGO - Georgia Force WR LARRY SHIPP has been awarded the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, while San Jose SaberCats DL JOE SYKES has been named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and Arizona Rattlers WR TRANDON HARVEY has been named JLS Ironman of the Week for Week 14 of the 2012 AFL season. In addition to these awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week, Spalding Highlight of the Week, and the AFL Playmaker of the week. The Cutters Catch of the Week award winner for Week 14 is Philadelphia Soul WR LARRY BRACKINS, while the AFL Playmaker of the week is San Jose SaberCats DL JOE SYKES. The Spalding Highlight of the week is Milwaukee Mustangs DB KELVIN RODGERS.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shipp (5-10, 200, Tennessee Tech) had 13 receptions for 167 yards and three receiving touchdowns. He also had a one-yard rushing touchdown and 38 kick return yards in Georgia's 56-39 victory over the Jacksonville Sharks in Week 14. Shipp has now collected 106 receptions for 1,268 yards and 26 touchdowns in addition to four rushing touchdowns on five carries this season. He leads the Force in scoring with 182 points.

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sykes (6-5, 280, Southern) had 2.5 sacks and an interception he returned 43 yards for a touchdown in San Jose's 51-34 victory over the Orlando Predators in Week 14. The defensive lineman put the SaberCats up 18 points with 8:07 remaining in the game with his interception return. He also sacked Orlando Predators QB Chris Leak twice in the last four minutes of the game to ensure the victory for San Jose and break the teams single-season sack record.

JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Harvey (5-11, 190, Washington State) tallied eight catches for 104 yards and four receiving touchdowns to go with seven kick returns for 141 yards, and a carry for eight yards. He was responsible for 24 of Arizona's 55 points in the game. Harvey caught two touchdown passes at the end of the first half that put the Rattlers up 13 points after Iowa had recovered early to take the lead. He now has 32 receptions for 355 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. Harvey will receive a watch crafted by JLS for his efforts.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Brackins (6-5,220, Pearl River CC) made an exceptional touchdown catch in the Soul's matchup against the Mustangs in Week 14. He maintained possession of a pass from quarterback Dan Raudabaugh as he flipped over the wall in the end zone early in the game. The Soul beat the Mustangs, 69-62. Brackins will receive a Cutters shirt and hat for his efforts.

AFL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK

Sykes (6-5, 280, Southern) is the AFL Playmaker of the Week in addition to being the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week. His 43-yard interception return for a touchdown halted the momentum of the visiting Predators and his two sacks stifled the Predators comeback attempt.

SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Rodgers (6-1, 180, Minnesota State) was awarded the Spalding Highlight of the Week honor for his opening 58-yard kickoff return touchdown against the Philadelphia Soul. He scored a second kickoff return touchdown of 54 yards in the second quarter. He has five kickoff returns for touchdowns since joining the Mustangs earlier this year and six kick return touchdowns overall this season.

Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Trandon Harvey, Utah's Tommy Grady, San Jose's Huey Whittaker, Philadelphia's Donovan Morgan, and Georgia's Larry Shipp.

Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Spokane's Mike Alston, Utah's Will Mulder, Milwaukee's Jamar Love and Georgia's Jeremy Grier.

JLS Ironman of the Week candidates included: Spokane's Adron Tennell, Utah's Shaun Kauleinamoku, San Jose's Huey Whittaker and Jacksonville's Terrance Smith.

The Arena Football League is also awarding the National Guard MVP of the Week, where fans are given the opportunity to select the winner. Candidates include San Jose's DL Joe Sykes, Georgia's WR Larry Shipp, and Philadelphia WR Donovan Morgan. Fans will have 24 hours to vote beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13. The winner will be announced on Thursday, June 14.
