YAKIMA, Wash. - Tim Sherlock lined a pinch-hit, game-winning, two-run single into right in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Yakima Bears (16-25) a 4-3 victory over the Everett AquaSox (24-17) in front of 1,961 fans at County Stadium Friday night.
Sherlock roped the first pitch he saw over first baseman Gerardo Avila's head to score pinch-runner Zach Varnell and Gerson Montilla to send the fans home happy, clinching a third straight win for the Bears.
Yakima took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Ryan Wheeler two-run triple, his third of the series, after Ryan Royster led off the game with a solo home run to right.
Everett tied the game in the top of the fifth on a Gerardo Avila home run to the deepest part of the yard in right center. The Frogs would take the lead in the eighth on a Hawkins Gebbers two-out RBI single. Brian Budrow (1-2) tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn the victory while Daniel Cooper (0-1) blew the save by allowing two runs in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.
Tyrell Worthington had a nice night at the plate, going 3-for-4.
The two teams will meet Saturday night at 7:05 for the series finale. Ryan Moorer (3-1, 3.05 ERA) will get the nod for Everett against Ben Dollar (0-1, 3.31 ERA) for Yakima. Saturday is Autism Awareness Night at County Stadium and the Bears will be donning one-of-a-kind Autism Awareness jerseys to be auctioned off during the game.
