Shaw CFL Top Performers Named for Week 11

August 27, 2019 - Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release

TORONTO - Willie Jefferson, Dylan Wynn and DaVaris Daniels were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 11 of the CFL's 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFGL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Ford of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

DL | WILLIE JEFFERSON | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Willie Jefferson was a spark plug for the Blue Bombers, helping his team keep top spot in the West Division following a 34-28 win over the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Stephen F. Austin alum filled the stat sheet with four tackles, a career-high three sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a knockdown. Jefferson's performance doubled the number of sacks allowed by Edmonton on the season.

In the first quarter, the 6'7" native of Beaumont, Texas, wrapped up Trevor Harris for a 23-yard loss which forced a fumble that the Blue Bombers recovered. Jefferson got to Harris for a one-yard loss early in the fourth which left the Eskimos settling for a field goal. To complete his trio of sacks, he once again reached the Esks pivot and stripped the ball away before recovering the football himself. He has now tallied 39 sacks in 86 career CFL games.

This season, Jefferson has 11 tackles, eight sacks, one interception and five forced fumbles for the Blue Bombers.

DT | DYLAN WYNN | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

The Ticats' Dylan Wynn led the way in a suffocating defensive effort as Hamilton defeated BC 13-10.

Wynn collected four defensive tackles while also establishing a new personal-best with three sacks in a game.

With BC threatening in the second quarter, the Oregon State product brought down Mike Reilly for a loss of eight yards and the Lions were forced to settle for a field goal. He once again got to the BC quarterback midway through the fourth to send the Lions back five yards. His final sack of the night came late in the game as the Lions were attempting to claw back from a 13-3 deficit.

Through 10 games, the native of Concord, Calif., has totaled 26 defensive tackles and eight sacks. His previous career-highs are 34 and six, respectively - both established in 2017 as a member of Toronto.

WR | DAVARIS DANIELS | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Wide receiver DaVaris Daniels continued his impressive season, but his performance wasn't enough to overcome the efforts of the visiting Blue Bombers.

The Vernon Hills, Ill., native continued to show great chemistry with Trevor Harris. On Edmonton's opening drive, the pair connected on a 41-yard pass. Daniels ended the first half with five receptions and 142 yards, highlighted by a 54-yard grab in the second quarter which set up a field goal to cut Winnipeg's lead to 10-6. Daniels would go on to average 20.7 receiving yards on the night while reeling in a season-high 10 catches. His 207 receiving yards also established a new career mark in a single game, eclipsing his previous record of 155 yards established in Week 10 against Toronto.

The Notre Dame alum has notched 31 receptions while collecting 501 receiving yards and one touchdown in five games played during this campaign. He is on track to establish new career-highs in catches (51) and receiving yards (885) - both set in 2016.
