Norfolk SharX News Release
Baltimore, Maryland - The SharX placed their third player on injured reserve this week and lost two others to injury last week and it showed on the field tonight when the team lost to Baltimore 26-4.
Brady Bryant is gone for the season with a torn ACL but Andrew Marshall (hamstring), Brandon Massie (back), and Jeferson (quad) will hopefully be back on the field soon. Marshall, Massie and Jeferson did not make the trip to Baltimore. Gerson Dos Santos who left a month ago to visit his ill father in Brazil, returns to the U.S. tomorrow and will rejoin the team against Syracuse on February 9.
Norfolk started strong when leading scorer Miguel Ferrer put the SharX up 2-0 just 56 seconds into the game on an unassisted strike from the right corner of the pitch. But the Blast's Shaun David tied it up 11 seconds later with a strong shot that glanced off Norfolk keeper Jamie Lieberman's hand to make it 2-2. That's as close as the SharX would get.
The Blast scored 24 more unanswered points before Norfolk's Marcus Schimidt got on the board to score the last goal of the match with just two and a half minutes left.
"We are injured and banged up but we played poorly tonight," said head coach Jon Hall. "A lot of the best things about our team were not on view and we're all very disappointed."
The SharX head to Syracuse on February 9th and then return home to Norfolk Scope Arena for their final four games of the 2012-13 season. Kickoff against Syracuse on February 14 at Scope is scheduled for 7 p.m. followed by three Sunday matches with 2 p.m. start times - February 19 against Milwaukee, February 26 against Baltimore and March 4 against Wichita, all at Norfolk Scope Arena.
On February 7, The Public House in Ghent will be hosting a Meet and Greet with the SharX and the Mermaids at 5:30 p.m. so fans can mingle with the team and our cheerleaders. Enjoy some "Shark Bites" courtesy of The Public House and there will be a cash bar as well. This will be a family friendly event and everyone is welcome. Be sure to bring your SharX merchandise and memorabilia to be autographed!
On February 14, one lucky fan will win a $3,000 diamond ring courtesy of Long's Jewelers, a perfect way to spend Valentine's Day. Great giveaways will follow at our February 19, 26 and March 4 games.
