New York Sharks News Release

NEW YORK, NY April 7, 2003. For the first time, the Independent Women's Football League's championship game will be held in New York City – at DaSilva Memorial Stadium on the campus of St. John's University in Queens. Two teams from six conferences in the US and Canada will vie for the national title on Saturday, July 12th, 2003 at 6:00pm. Reigning 2002 IWFL National Champs, the New York Sharks, will host the festivities. Ticket prices will be $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children under 12. Due to limited seating advance ticket sales are expected to begin sometime in June through the Sharks website.

The NY Sharks begin their 2003 season on Saturday, April 12th against the Montreal Blitz. The regular season runs through June 14th and will include four home games: April 12th and May 31st at August Martin High School in Queens, and April 26th and May 17th at Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island. Tickets for the regular season are on sale now at the NY Sharks website: www.nysharksfootball.com. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 12. Season ticket packages are also available.

The NY Sharks have been a fixture in women's professional tackle football for the past four years and are one of the longest-running franchises. This year, the team - undefeated in 2002 - is poised for another winning season. Many of last year's stars have returned, including quarterback Val Halesworth and middle linebacker Missy Marmorale - MVP of the 2002 National Championship game. Nick Giannatasio has also returned as Head Coach.

"The only thing that could top winning the title last year in Oregon would be repeating it in 2003 - in front of a hometown crowd at St. John's," says Sharks owner Andra Douglas. "Our players and our fans deserve that!"
