Pittsfield Suns News Release

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks gave the Pittsfield Suns their worst home loss of the season, beating them 17-3 Thursday evening at Wahconah Park, before a crowd of 2,612.

The Sharks scored early and often, with their first run coming in the first inning. A one-out double by Brain Campbell and single from Luke Bonfield put runners on first and third base for Steve Buckley who would then hit a sacrifice fly to right to plate the first run of the night.

Martha's Vineyard would put another three runs on the board in the second and an additional two in the third before the Suns would be able to muster one run. Michael Valentin Jr. led off the inning with a single and reached third after a single by Gary Tesch and a Sharks error. Dan Cellucci would then pop up to center field, allowing Valentin to score.

The Sharks were not deterred though and plated another four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings and another three in the seventh, totaling 17 runs and 24 hits. The Suns attempted to mount a come back and managed to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but could only plate two runs, giving Martha's Vineyard a 17-3 victory.

Soren Hanson recorded the win for Martha's Vineyard. He went six innings, giving up only four hits and run while striking out eight Pittsfield batters. Suns pitching would give up a combined 24 hits and five walks and strike out four. Justin Finan went three innings and was charged with the loss.

The Suns return to Wahconah Park Sunday afternoon at 4 PM to face the Worcester Bravehearts. It's Youth Jersey Giveaway Day and the first 500 kids under 14 will receive a replica jersey thanks to Greylock Federal Credit Union.
