Honolulu Sharks News Release
Four Honolulu pitchers limited Waikiki to a run on three hits, and the Sharks claimed the 3-1 victory in seven innings this afternoon at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park.
Honolulu starter Josh Stinson (2-0) of the New York Mets tossed four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three and lowering his ERA to a miniscule 0.87. David Patton contributed two scoreless innings of relief, and Andy Graham picked up the save after recording the game's final two outs.
The Sharks (6-3-1) received two hits apiece from newcomer Dominic Brown and Darin Holcomb. The duo accounted for four of the team's five base hits, and each notched a double on the afternoon.
The BeachBoys (4-6) collected three base hits, one of which belonged to Yonder Alonso of Cincinnati. The No. 7 overall selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft hit his first home run with Waikiki on a blast over the right field fence in the ninth inning to ruin Honolulu's shot at a shutout.
Honolulu extended its lead in Hawaii Winter Baseball's East Division to 2.5 games with the win.
Both squads return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the final game of the three-game set. The contest is scheduled for seven innings.
