Sharks Feast on Honu in 15-Run Outburst

The Honolulu Sharks pounded 16 hits en route to a 15-1 rout over the North Shore Honu this afternoon at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu. Left fielder Takumi Kobe led the offensive barrage with four hits including two triples, and four RBIs to go along with two runs scored.

The Sharks (3-4) held a modest 2-1 lead until exploding in an 11-run eighth inning to put the game out of reach. Miguel Abreu chipped in a two-run home run in the ninth, and drove in three runs on the afternoon. Matt Wieters also had a productive game at the plate, going 3-6 with a double and RBI.

Honolulu starter Takuya Furuya earned his second victory of the season after allowing one run on four hits through five innings of work in which he struck out four Honu batters. Logan Ondrusek took the loss after allowing two runs, one of which was earned, in three innings on the bump.

Both teams go at it again tomorrow evening in the rubber match of the three-game series tomorrow at Hans L'Orange Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
