Sharks Cool Off Streaking BeachBoys

Shoji Ohiro and Jason Place each hit two-run home runs to help the Honolulu Sharks cool off the Waikiki BeachBoys, 10-4, tonight in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game before 487 in attendance at Hans L'Orange Park.

The Sharks (5-5) scored three runs in both the first and fourth innings, in accordance with the two long balls. Place added an RBI double and Austin Jackson drove him in on a sacrifice fly in the eighth frame, while Matt Wieters capped the inning with a two-run double to deep center field to put the game out of reach.

George Kontos (1-2, 4.50 ERA) picked up the win for the Sharks by keeping his team in the game through the first five innings in which he allowed one run on four hits and struck out five. Waikiki starter Benjamin Snyder (0-3, 7.00 ERA) took the loss, allowing three runs in as many innings.

Justin Sellers notched three hits and Michael Wilson collected two base knocks for Waikiki (7-4), which had entered the game riding a three-game win streak.

Matt Inouye, the BeachBoys catcher, picked up a single in the ninth inning and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly. The former University of Hawaii standout is now hitting .364 in HWB.

Honolulu's Brad Suttle broke an 0-24 slump to start the season with a double in the eighth inning. The New York Yankees prospect now owns a .040 average.

Both squads return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow for the second game of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
