Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
On the heels of a disappointing loss after an extremely long road trip a week ago the Corpus Christi Sharks rebounded with a 47-38 victory over the Daytona Beach Thunderbirds in front of 4,589 fans at Radiology Associates Field inside the American Bank Center on Saturday night.
Quarterback Fran Johnson threw four touchdown passes and ran for another while passing for a franchise record 288 yards and earning offensive player of the game honors.
The Sharks opened the scoring when Johnson found Kenyada Tatum on a 26-yard touchdown pass just 2:47 into the ball game and held the lead until Thunderbirds linebacker Tim Daniels' 18-yard fumble return for a touchdown gave Daytona Beach (2-7) a 38-33 lead with 1:02 left to play in the third quarter. The Sharks (4-4) recaptured the lead just 1:54 later when Johnson connected with Graham on a 26-yard touchdown to give Corpus Christi the lead for good.
Johnson's 1-yard touchdown run with 7:25 to play in the game capped off the scoring as the Sharks closed the first half of the season at .500 and clinched at least a share of the lead in the Southwest Division of the National Conference moving into the final half of the season.
The Sharks will travel to Little Rock, AR, to take on the Arkansas Twisters on Saturday night before returning home to take on the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz at 7:05 p.m. on June 7th.
