Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
The Corpus Christi Sharks (2-6) scored on every offensive possession and the defense posted two stops in route to their second win of the season 65-62 over the visiting Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-4).
The Sharks revamped roster featured the return of FB John Cook and newly acquired West Texas A&M Rookie WR Anthony Clark. Both were key contributors in the win. Cook had two TD carries on the ground and Clark posted 3 catches for 53 yards and 3 scores. Clark's presence also helped open up the field for Sharks WR Brandon Hussey who had a huge game pulling down 9 Cooper passes for 174 yard and 4 TD's.
QB Gary Cooper garnered the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game by going 20-30 for 295yds and 7 TD passes.
The Sharks scored on the opening drive when Cooper hit Clark for a 29 yard TD capping off the 3 play 42 yard drive set the tone for the game in which the Sharks never trailed. The scoring grab was Clark's first professional catch and touchdown.
The game stayed close through out but a fourth quarter stop coupled with a failed onside kick attempt allowed the Sharks to open up an 11 point lead. The Yard Dawgz scored with no time left in the fourth quarter and successfully completed the 2 point conversion for the final score.
The Sharks will now have a short week of practice and welcome division rival Arkansas to the American Bank Center on Saturday night. The Twisters currently lead the Southwest Division with a 6-2 record. Kickoff is set for 7:05 and it is "Dollar Night" with the Sharks. The first 2009 fans receive a Dollar Bill at the door.
