Dallas Desperados News Release

Desperados defensive specialist Hassan Shamsid-Deen was named the Arena Football League's Defensive Player of the Week today. The award is the first such honor won by a Dallas Desperados player, and the first time Shamsid-Deen has received the award in his four seasons in the AFL.

Shamsid-Deen spearheaded a Desperados defensive effort that limited the Los Angeles Avengers to 264 total yards in the game and 14 points in the first half. Shamsid-Deen finished the game with 2.5 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions and a tackle for a four-yard loss.

Shamsid-Deen thwarted an Avengers scoring chance late in the first half when he dove in front of a Los Angeles receiver and intercepted a Tony Graziani pass in the end zone. Then in the fourth quarter with Dallas clinging to a four point advantage, Shamsid-Deen stepped in front of another Avengers receiver and made a leaping, one-handed pick of a Graziani Pass. The interception led to a 41-yard Desperados drive that culminated with a 16-yard field goal to give Dallas a seven point lead with under six minutes remaining in the game.

For his efforts at the STAPLES Center last Saturday night, Shamsid-Deen was named the Game's Most Valuable Player following the conclusion of the contest. Shamsid-Deen currently leads the team in tackles (32.0), passes defensed (11) and interceptions (four) to go with his one tackle for a loss.

Shamsid-Deen and the rest of the Dallas Desperados return to Harrah's Field at American Airlines Center this weekend to face the Indiana Firebirds. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available by calling 972-785-4900, visiting metroplex TicketMaster locations or by ordering through the Desperados web site at www.dallasdesperados.com.
