(Harrisburg, PA, June 9, 2007) - The Harrisburg City Islanders (4-1-4, 16 points) exploded for four second-half goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Bermuda Hogges (0-4-1) in front of 1,215 fans at Skyline Sports Complex on Saturday night. Chad Severs, acquired on loan from Rochester of the USL First Division this week, scored two goals and assisted on another, and Mo Oduor added a goal and an assist. Dave Kern got the win in goal.
Though Harrisburg seemed in control in the game's early moments, it was Bermuda who struck first. In the 10th minute, forward Stephen Astwood whistled a 25-yard drive low to Kern's right for a 1-0 lead.
The City Islanders controlled much of the rest of the first half (outshooting the Hogges 7-3), but were unable to beat Bermuda netminder Timothy Figureido. Severs accounted for six of those shots, but all of them were either turned aside by Figureido or missed the cage. The visitors led 1-0 at intermission.
Just two minutes into the second half, Severs turned playmaker to give the Islanders their first score of the night. He deftly back-heeled the ball to defender Ryan Pierce, running in from the left wing, and Pierce snuck a left-footed effort inside the far post for his first goal of the year.
Severs was rewarded for his persistence in the 51st minute, as he ran down a long Matt Tanzini ball, worked around Figureido, and slammed the ball into the vacated net for a 2-1 Harrisburg lead.
The Hogges tied the scored in the 63rd minute, when veteran Shaun Goater converted a Damon Jason Ming feed for a 2-2 deadlock.
The Islanders regained the lead at the 74-minute mark, when Steve Fisher (who had entered the game two minutes earlier) lofted a left-wing cross directly on to the foot of Mo Oduor, who settled, muscled past his marker, and cracked a shot over Figureido for a 3-2 advantage
Harrisburg completed the night's scoring in the 78th minute, when Oduor broke the ball out of the midfield and rolled it ahead to Severs, bursting down the left flank. Severs moved inside the penalty area and softly chipped a shot over a stretching Figureido for the final 4-2 score.
