Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - The Major League Baseball playoffs will feature several former Lancaster JetHawks players on rosters of three of the eight qualifying teams. Playoff action begins today as the Boston Red Sox, the Major League Affiliate of the JetHawks, take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. It is only the third time that a current JetHawks affiliate has played in the postseason, the first time being 1997 when the Seattle Mariners played in the American League Division Series, and in 2001 when the Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series in its first year as a Lancaster affiliate.

The Diamondbacks feature the largest number of former JetHawks players on its roster, representative of the club's affiliation in Lancaster from 2001 - 2006. Led by former JetHawks pitcher and Cy Young Award Winner Brandon Webb (2001), the club features 13 players who have donned the JetHawks uniform, including: P Micah Owings (2005), P Brandon Medders (2001-2002), P Doug Slaten (2001 - 2003), P Edgar Gonzalez (2002), C Miguel Montero (2005), C Chris Snyder (2003), C Robby Hammock (2001), INF Emilio Bonifacio (2006), INF Stephen Drew (2005), INF Conor Jackson (2004), INF Mark Reynolds (2006), OF Carlos Quentin (2004).

In addition to the 13 players, Arizona Hitting Coach Rick Schu was the JetHawks Hitting Coach during the 2001 season.

The Colorado Rockies, winners of a dramatic one-game Wild Card playoff on Monday, feature All Star reliever Brian Fuentes, who was a member of the JetHawks team, when the club was an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

In addition to the JetHawks representation, the Lancaster Stealth of the 1999 California Fall League are represented by Philadelphia Phillies reliever Kyle Lohse. The Stealth won the Fall League Championship in the league's only year of existence.

Lancaster is entering its 13th season in the California League and during that time, more than 70 players have been promoted to the Major League level following their stints with the JetHawks.

The JetHawks open the 2008 regular season on April 3 at High Desert before returning to Clear Channel Stadium for the home opener on April 10 against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Tremendous ticket packages starting at only $56 are available for purchase now by calling 661.726.5400.
