FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - Canada Soccer's men's national youth program has called in 55 players, including three players from FC Edmonton Academy for a dual camp in Burnaby, BC. The integrated camp features both a U-17 evaluation camp led by Paul Stalteri and a U-15 western identification camp led by Ante Jazic.
The U-17 group features 30 players eligible in the new cycle on the road to the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017. Players from across the country, along with a few from abroad, have been called into the evaluation camp. From the list of 30 players, all born in 2000 or 2001, there are 10 debutants.
U-16 Academy player David Chung will participate in the next 2001-born CSA Identification camp that opens up next week. Chung is the latest Edmonton Academy member to attend a national I.D. camp following Prince Amanda, Abraham Jones, Marcus Velado-Tsegaye and Darlington Murasinrana's appearances at a camp earlier this month.
The latest player to join the Academy on recommendation from coach Steve Fullerton; Aiden Sarcevic, will be heading to his first U-18 camp with Bosnia & Herzovingia. Sarcevic joined the Academy program in November of 2015. Academy U-18 striker Amer Halilic has also headed abroad to join a German club for a month-long training stint.
"Aiden is a player that we will certainly not take credit for with respects to his development," FC Edmonton Academy technical director Jeff Paulus explained. "That credit needs to go to the staff at Red Deer Soccer and Aiden himself. What we have been able to offer Aiden is an opportunity to hone his existing skills in a professional environment with a focus only on player development."
The camp invitations add to a list of Academy accomplishments that continue to accumulate. In 2015, FC Edmonton Academy was thrust into the spotlight following the inclusion of several Academy graduates on the Eddies' First Team, Canadian Senior and U-20 rosters.
"Aiden is a great example of Canada's soccer pathway working," Paulus added. "Whereby a player is promoted from the club system, to a professional academy, and now is getting a great opportunity in a Bosnian U-18 camp. Hopefully our role in helping to improve his speed of play and tactical awareness on the field will have helped to prepare him for this upcoming challenge."
FC Edmonton Academy began in January 2012 and now in its fifth year, continues to be a fully funded program by FC Edmonton owners Tom and Dave Fath. One of the goals of the Academy is to provide an opportunity for the elite player to focus solely on their individual growth within the playing philosophy of FC Edmonton.
