Topeka Pilots News Release

Ted Thompson became the seventh Lone Star Cavalry player to advance to NCAA hockey this week when he officially committed to Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Thompson, a 6-foot-4, 200 pound defenseman, played with the Cavalry in 2003-04 after spending the previous three seasons with the Jr. B Peoria Mustangs.

"I'm extremely happy to be playing for the Blugolds," said an elated Thompson. "It's nice load off my shoulders and can finally enjoy my summer before reporting to school."

Thompson joins fellow former Cavalry blueliner Zach Tesar at Eau Claire. "It's awesome Zach is there. It will be great having someone there I already know," said Thompson. "It's also going to be great playing against (former teammate) Nick Laird at Stevens Point."

Thompson looks forward to playing for head coach Jean-Francois LaForest. "He's my type of coach; old school like Trevor Converse and Scott Langer. He likes big physical types, which is what I am."

Cavalry education coordinator Lindsay Foster is proud of the work Thompson has accomplished. "Ted has overcome many challenges both on and off the ice to achieve this goal," said Foster. "He is truly an inspiration to those who say that something is impossible to accomplish. I expect Ted to do many other great things in the years to come. I've never seen anyone as dedicated both in the classroom and on the ice."

Thompson joins Tesar, Laird, Tim Hartung (Northern Michigan), Peter Shenk (Air Force), Eric Trax (Robert Morris), and Brian Papcun (Quinnipiac) as Cavalry players from last season who will be playing for NCAA teams this season.

This season's Cavalry will take another step forward during their Dallas-Fort Worth open tryout camp. The camp will be on August 20-22 at the Dr. Pepper Star Center-Euless.

For more information, including a map from the hotel to the rink, please consult the tryouts section of Cavalry official website or contact coach Scott Langer at scott@lonestarcavalry.com or phone him at (817) 301-6370.
