Seven Stone Crabs Selected To 2010 All-Star Team

Published on June 1, 2010 under Florida State League (FSL1) News Release

The Florida State League announced its 2010 All-Star selections last week, and the Charlotte Stone Crabs tied a league-high with seven players named to the South Division squad: right-handed pitcher Nick Barnese, left-handed pitcher Josh Satow, right-handed pitcher Zachary Quate, right-handed pitcher Christopher Andujar, catcher Stephen Vogt, outfielder Isaias Velasquez and infielder Henry Wrigley.

The 2010 FSL All-Star Game will be played at Space Coast Stadium, home of the Brevard County Manatees, on Saturday, June 12 at 7:35 p.m. After leading the Stone Crabs to a South Division Championship last season, Charlotte skipper Jim Morrison will manage the South team along with hitting coach Joe Szekely, pitching coach Neil Allen, athletic trainer Chris Tomashoff and strength coach Scott Smith.

The All-Star selection is the second for starters Barnese (RHP) and Andujar (RHP). Barnese also earned the league honor while playing for Hudson Valley in the New York-Penn League in 2008 while Andujar picked up his first selection while pitching for Bowling Green in the South Atlantic League last season. Barnese has posted a solid 3.81 ERA (24er/56.2ip) with a 4-3 record in 10 starts and has 57 strikeouts in just 56 2/3 innings pitched while only walking 14 batters this season. Andujar has gone 4-1 in eight starts this season with a 3.40 ERA (17er/45ip).

Both of Charlotte's closers earned spots on the team with Satow (LHP) and Quate (RHP) earning the first All-Star nods of their career. Satow makes the team after collecting six saves in six opportunities with a 2.11 ERA (5er/21.1ip) in 16 appearances this season. The former Arizona State standout has struck out 29 batters in just 21 1/3 innings pitched. Quate also recorded six saves while posting a stellar 0.73 ERA (2er/24.2ip) with 38 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings pitched.

All three position players from the Stone Crabs will also make their All-Star game debuts with Vogt (C), Velasquez (OF) and Wrigley (INF/OF) earning the first career selections. Vogt has posted a team-high .372 batting average (29-for-78) in 25 games this season and even recorded a franchise-high 17-game hitting streak despite a lack of regular playing time.

Velasquez has served as a consistent top of the order threat with a .282 batting average (5-1for-181) and 18 stolen bases, ranking him second in the league. Wrigley earns a spot as the designated hitter for the South squad after spending time at the top of several categories of the FSL leaderboard. He has posted a solid .309 batting average (56-for-181) while leading the team with nine home runs, 33 RBIs, 12 doubles and 29 runs scored.
