Greeneville Astros News Release
Kingsport, TN - The Greeneville Astros defeated the Kingsport Mets Saturday night in Kingsport by a score of 10-6. The victory further insures the Astros' claim to first place in the Appalachian League West division and extends their season record to 21-17.
The Astros' bats caught fire once again as eight different batters combined for 13 hits in the game. Leading the charge were two of the Houston Astros' top-ranked prospects, Daz Cameron and Kyle Tucker. Having just arrived in Tennessee following a promotion from the Gulf Coast League Astros earlier in the day, both Cameron and Tucker had three-for-five nights while combining for three RBI in their Appalachian League debuts. Tucker, the number five overall pick of the 2015 draft, recorded his first double of the season, while Cameron, the number 37 pick of the 2015 draft, recorded his first triple and two stolen bases.
Down 1-0 thanks to a Luis Ortega RBI-triple for the Mets in the second inning, Greeneville put together seven runs in the top of the third to take the lead. Osvaldo Duarte led off the inning with a bang, sending a ball over the left field fence for his third home run of the season. The Astros then strung together seven more hits to plate six more runs and bring the score to 7-1. Myles Straw and Daz Cameron each had two hits apiece in the inning.
Moreno Polanco, making his first start for Greeneville since also being called up from the Gulf Coast League earlier in the week, pitched four complete innings and picked up two strikeouts. Starlyng Sanchez made his second appearance of the season for the Astros in the fifth and was accredited with his first win.
Lachlan Madden maintained his 0.00 ERA while striking out one when he came in to pitch in the sixth inning, recording the hold.
Matt Bower picked up the save after taking over in the seventh inning. He tossed three full innings while allowing only one run to score and striking out a career-high six.
The Astros added on to their lead in the top of the ninth inning thanks to a Daz Cameron two-RBI triple and a Ford Stainback sacrifice fly. The Mets scored one additional run in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the ninth, but it was not enough to overcome the impressive ten run performance by the Greeneville offense and they fell 10-6.
The Astros will return home to Pioneer Park on Sunday to finish up their series with Mets. The game will start at 2:00 PM with gates opening at 1:00 PM.
