Series Preview: Bees vs. Aces

The 47-66 Salt Lake Bees finished a six-game homestand with the Oklahoma City Dodgers and are heading west to battle against the 65-47 Reno Aces.

Michael Stefanic stayed red hot against the Dodgers and proved to be a tough out every game. He went 8-for-25 (.320 .avg) with two doubles, one home run, reached base safely 10 times and accounted for three runs. In Thursday's game Stefanic was a perfect four-for-four and flexed his power hitting with a double, a home run, two RBI, reached base safely once and accounted for two runs. Stefanic now has the second best batting average (.336), fourth best on base percentage (.411) and the seventh most hits (113) in Triple-A.

Brandon Davis was putting on a show this past series. He reached base safely in six-games and had four multi-hit games. Davis got 10 hits on 24 at-bats (.417 avg) with a double, one home run, 4 RBI, drew four walks (.583 OBP) and accounted for four runs. On Monday he went two for four with a home run, an RBI and accounted for a run. Davis is batting .405 in September and has a .595 slugging percentage.

Matt Thaiss strung together a good series against Oklahoma City. He had seven hits on 23 at-bats (.304 .avg) with a home run and four RBI. In the last game of the series Thaiss went four-for-four with a home run, three RBI and accounted for three runs. Thaiss has a .333 batting average in September and a .814 OPS.

Jake Gatewood crushed his 25th home run of the season on Sunday giving him the fifth most home runs and sixth most RBI (72) in Triple-A.

On Sunday Thomas Pannone picked up his fifth win of the season and gave Jack Dashwood the opportunity to pick up his first save in his Triple-A career. Pannone got a quality start and threw six innings and gave up three runs on six hits while striking out three batters. Dashwood came in to relieve Pannone and threw three innings and only gave up one run on two hits while striking out three batters. Pannone is now 5-10 on the season and the Bees won Sunday's game 8-5.

The Reno Aces wrapped up a six-game road series with the Las Vegas Aviators. The Aces won four games and outscored the Aviators 47-27. Reno is heading into the home series with the Bees in second place in the West Division of Triple-A West and have a 26-26 record at home.

Third basemen Drew Ellis is heading into the series with the highest OPS (.988), and the fourth highest slugging percentage (.584) in Triple-A. In the series vs. Las Vegas Ellis had three multi-hit games with a .368 batting average (7-19). Ellis had two doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and reached base safely 11 times (.579 OBP).

Tyler Holton is the probable starter for the first game of the series. He has a 4.22 ERA on 10.2 innings pitched in Triple-A this season. Holton has 14 strikeouts, allowed 17 hits and opposing hitters have a .354 batting average against him.

In Holton's last outing he threw three innings and only gave up one earned run on four hits while striking three batters.
