Lancaster JetHawks News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Vince Fernandez cranked a three-run homer to give the JetHawks a lead, but the bullpen and defense couldn't hold on in an 8-4 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Thursday night at LoanMart Field.
Fernandez' homer came in the fourth inning against Rancho starter Dustin May and gave Lancaster (12-10, 45-47) a 3-1 lead. It was his 10th long ball of the season.
The Quakes (19-3, 54-38) rallied to tie the game with a run in the fourth and an Omar Estevez homer in the sixth against Heath Holder.
Kenny Oakley (0-5) entered the game to pitch in the seventh inning and gave up three unearned runs to break the tie. Saige Jenco reached to lead off the inning on a Colton Welker error. Gavin Lux doubled and Cody Thomas walked to load the bases before the go-ahead run scored on an Estevez ground out. Cristian Santana followed with a two-run single.
The Quakes added two runs in the eighth against Bryan Baker before the JetHawks scored an unearned run in the ninth.
Rancho starter Dustin May struck out 12 Lancaster hitters over 6.2 innings. The JetHawks struck out 18 times on the night to tie a season-high.
Logan Longwith, who was reinstated from the disabled list before the game and started for the first time since May 25, allowed two runs over 3.2 innings.
Marshal Kasowski (2-0) struck out four batters in 1.1 innings to pick up the win.
The JetHawks dropped three-of-four in the series and return home to The Hangar to open a four-game series against Lake Elsinore Friday night. Antonio Santos (0-1) is the scheduled starter. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
