Senators sign former Delta State star

Jackson, MS; April 29, 2005 – The Jackson Senators of the Central Baseball League (CBL) announced today they have signed right-handed pitcher Matt McAlpin to their roster. With McAlpin's signing, the Senators now have 26 players on their Spring Training roster. CBL rules mandate rosters must be trimmed to 24 players by Monday, May 2nd then down to the season limit of 22 players by May 19th. The Senators open the 2005 season at home on Thursday, May 5th versus the Pensacola Pelicans.

McAlpin, a Mise, MS native, was the winning pitcher for Delta State University in last years NCAA Division II World Series title game. Last season, his senior year with the Statesman, McAlpin went 10-1 with a 4.37 ERA in 19 appearances with four complete games to his credit.

The Jackson Senators are part of the Central Baseball League, an independent league of eight professional baseball teams located throughout four southern states. The league is preparing for its twelfth season this summer with teams located in Edinburg, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Robstown, and San Angelo, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Pensacola, Florida; and Jackson, Mississippi. The CBL will play a 94-game schedule between May and August 2005.
