Jackson Senators News Release
Jackson, MS; August 15, 2003 â The Senators stole game two of the three game series vs. the Shreveport Sports as they won 7-6. Trey Salinas was the hero, as he drove a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning. That home run proved to be the game winner, which was the third for Salinas since joining the Senators 11 game ago. Steve Brown (2-0) picked up the win, going two innings, only giving up just one hit. Brandon Parker for the third game in a row picked up his 22nd save of the season. Things did get shaky in the ninth, as the Sports loaded up the bases with no outs, yet Parker was able to get out of it with only one run scoring. Jerry Knox (1-5) took the loss, after giving up three runs on one hit in 1.2 innings of work. The Senators improved to 24-17 on the half and 55-34 on the season. The Sports dropped to 17-23 during second half play and 46-42 on the year.
Next home game: Will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2003, as it will be "Metro Center Mall Back-to-School Night'" with the first 500 children through the front gates receiving a free 3-ring binder. Jackson Public School Officials will also be collecting un-used school supplies for under privileged children. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
