Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Sam Selman was brilliant in his eighth start of the season but endured a no-decision as the Naturals (16-28) dropped the first game of the series against the San Antonio Missions (21-24), 2-0, on Wednesday night.
Selman tossed six innings in the contest for the first time at the Double-A level. He added a season-high eight strikeouts with just three hits allowed on his remarkable night. The southpaw struck out the side in the first and racked up five strikeouts through the first two innings.
Both teams remained scoreless until the eighth inning when Reymond Fuentes laced his first homer of the season off of RHP Matt Murray giving the Missions a 1-0 lead. Murray went two innings and struck out four. One inning later, Jason Hagerty smacked his fourth homer of the season off of Wilking Rodriguez extending the Missions' lead to 2-0.
Murray (0-2) suffered the loss for Northwest Arkansas while Luis De La Cruz (1-4) picked up the win tossing a scoreless seventh inning and Johnny Barbato earned his Texas League leading 12th save of the season.
Orlando Calixte hit his first double of 2014 and is hitting .353 at home.
