 Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League

Selke Trophy Nominees Now Unveiled

June 11, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Montreal, QC - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today released the names of the three finalists for the Frank J. Selke Trophy, which honours the league's Most Sportsmanlike Player. This year's nominees are Dawson Mercer of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, Xavier Bourgault of the Shawinigan Cataractes and Justin Robidas of the Val-d'Or Foreurs.

To be considered in this category, the player must prove his efficiency on the ice, while showing maximum respect towards his opponents and officials and avoiding the penalty box.

Not only did Dawson Mercer rank first among his team's scorers, but he only received six penalty minutes last season. With his outstanding personality, he once again proved to be one of the best sportsmanlike players in the QMJHL.

Xavier Bourgault is an exceptional player who shows both talent and respect on the ice. Despite logging huge minutes on the ice this year, he only sat in the penalty box for six minutes. Offensively, he hit the target no less than 20 times and collected 20 assists.

Justin Robidas has not spent much time in the penalty box. In two seasons in the QMJHL, he has been called for only six minor penalties. Robidas likes to make a name for himself with his stick. The Foreurs' forward had 19 goals and 17 assists this season.
