Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi, Texas â The Corpus Christi Rayz have signed former Rayz center Dave Gilmore to a one-year contract, Rayz General Manager/Senior Vice President Larry Linde announced Monday afternoon. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Gilmore, 30, makes his return to the Rayz after having spent the 1999-00 season in Corpus Christi. He notched 33 points in 31 games that year in his rookie campaign. Last season, in Indianapolis under Rayz Head Coach Ken McRae, the veteran forward from St. Thomas, Ontario led the team in goals with 29 and finished fourth in points with 62. He added six points in the team's five playoff games.
"I'm familiar with Dave, and Dave is familiar with Corpus Christi," said McRae. "He should be able to come in and pick up exactly where he left off last season, and that will be a big boost for our club. We're happy to have him coming here."
Gilmore becomes the ninth player under contract for Corpus Christi and the second veteran player to join the Rayz, along with last season's CHL Most Outstanding Defenseman, Bernie John. Under the new CHL roster regulations, each team can have a maximum of four veteran players who have played a total of 260 or more professional hockey games.
At 5'9", 175 lbs, Gilmore uses his exceptional puck control to find the back of the net. Known for having gifted hands, Gilmore has averaged at least a point a game in every season as a pro, dating back to his rookie year in 1999. Even after he left the Gulf Coast, Gilmore still kept attachments to the region. His wife Droxene is from Corpus Christi, and they met when he was a player for the Rayz. Last summer they returned to Corpus Christi for their wedding.
The Rayz also announced that they have traded defenseman Mike Tilson to the Fort Worth Brahmas for future considerations. Over two seasons with the Rayz, the veteran defenseman appeared in 94 games and had 71 points.
The Corpus Christi Rayz are in preparation for their seventh professional hockey season in Corpus Christi and inaugural year at the AmericanBank Center. Make plans to be a part of all the excitement and cash in on the Rayz Rewards Benefit Package for season ticket holders. Group tickets and corporate packages are currently available as well.
