Atlanta Silverbacks News Release

EDMONTON (August 21, 2011) - The Atlanta Silverbacks fell to FC Edmonton, 3-0, Sunday night at Foote Field in Edmonton.

The Silverbacks (3-16-3) came out strong in their first-ever game at Foote Field, with midfielder Lucas Paulini coming close to scoring on a header in the early stages.

After a scoreless first half, FC Edmonton (8-9-5) began to attack the Silverbacks defense. Silverbacks goalkeeper Felipe Quintero was forced into a pair of saves early in the second half before FC Edmonton finally made the breakthrough in the 63rd minute.

A counterattack led by forward Michael Cox was defended well by the Silverbacks, but Cox pulled the ball back to midfielder Kyle Yamada, who found forward Shaun Saiko for the opening goal. Saiko put a well-placed shot into the corner of the net as Quintero dove the other way, giving FC Edmonton the 1-0 advantage.

Cox would double his team's lead just eight minutes later when he dodged Silverbacks defender Willie Hunt, dribbled around Quintero and placed a shot into the side netting. It was the 19-year-old's first goal of the season, and he didn't have to wait long for his second.

In the 76th minute, a long pass was played through to Cox, who ran onto the ball and again dribbled around Quintero to finish into an open net. The 3-0 lead allowed the home team to snap its eight-game winless streak; the match extended a five-game slump for the Silverbacks, during which they have been held scoreless.

The Silverbacks return home from their three-game road trip on Saturday when they host the first-place Carolina RailHawks at 7:30 p.m. at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. To purchase tickets, please visit atlantasilverbacks.com or call (404) 969-4900.
