Wichita Wild News Release
WICHITA, KS- The halftime shows of the last four Wichita Wild games have been as intense as the games themselves. That's because halftime at Hartman Arena has been enthralled by performances from this year's second annual Wildest Drum Line Competition. Sponsored by the University of Phoenix, the event has eight high school drum lines from all across Kansas competing against one another for the grand title of a Wildest Drum Line Champion.
The event has shown to be a spectator fan favorite during the halftime show at Wild games, and the competition will no doubly heat up this Saturday night as Ark City High School takes on the defending 2011 Wildest Drum Line Champions August High School in this week's round one semi-final. August High, who as defending champions drew a bye this year's first round, will be looking to defend their championship, while Ark City High, who defeated Mulvane High on March 24th, have their eyes set on a first appearance into the finals.
Coldwater High, who trumped Solomon High in the first round, will take on Hutchinson Trinity High, who conquered Royal Valley High, at the next upcoming Wild home game on May 19th. The winners of the May 5th and May 19th showdowns will then faceoff in the final round of competition on June 2nd.
With the winner chosen by the loudest fan ovation, each team needs as much support in the crowd as they can get. Each High School that competes is provided with unlimited $2 off coupons into the games. Typical $12 tickets can be bought for $10, with one dollar being reduced off the ticket price and one dollar given back to the school represented by their drum line. Coupons can be obtained by anyone affiliated with each High School band participating.
Each High School that participates in the Wildest Drum Line Competition also automatically receives $300 dollars to their band program, and the winner will receive an additional $1,000.
This week's faceoff between August High and Ark City High will take place at halftime of Saturday night's Wild game; kickoff scheduled at 7:05pm (CST) at Hartman Arena.
