Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON - The Binghamton Senators, Syracuse Crunch and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will once again compete in a round-robin tournament during the 2005 American Hockey League pre-season. Binghamton won the inaugural I-81 Puck Cup tournament in 2004.
The Sens will host the Crunch on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 5:05 p.m. and travel to Syracuse on Monday, Oct. 3 for a 7:00 p.m. game. Binghamton will host the Penguins on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:05 p.m. and visit Wilkes-Barre on the following night, Oct. 1, for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
General admission tickets for each I-81 Puck Cup game at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena cost $10. Groups of 15 or more and anyone who purchases tickets to both pre-season games will receive a $1.00 discount on each ticket. Tickets for both games may be purchased beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 8 a.m. inside the Binghamton Senators' executive office on the third floor of the Arena and at www.binghamtonsenators.com. Fans may also purchase tickets at the Arena box office and all Ticketmaster outlets beginning at 10 a.m. on Sept. 6.
The tournament will once again feature the three Interstate 81 rivals competing in a round-robin format with each team playing a home and an away game against the other two teams. The team to emerge with the most points at the conclusion of the tournament will be named the champion. Should there be a tie, the winner of the I-81 Puck Cup will be determined following the guidelines set forth by the American Hockey League for ties in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season.
Binghamton won the inaugural tournament finishing with a record of 3-1-0-0 after dropping the first contest on the road to Syracuse. The championship was decided in the tournament's final game as Binghamton center Jason Spezza scored an overtime game-winning goal against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Oct. 9, 2004.
The winner of the tournament will receive the I-81 Puck Cup trophy that is currently on display inside the Senators' executive office. The complete I-81 Puck Cup schedule follows:
