Erie SeaWolves News Release
ERIE, PA - Carlos Peña surrendered a quick unearned run on an Easton Carmichael line drive single in the top of the first inning, but that was the beginning and end of the Altoona Curve (16-21, 47-59) offensive output. The Erie SeaWolves (25-12, 61-44) fought back with 10 unanswered runs and rolled to a 10-1 victory on Friday night at UPMC Park.
Erie wasted no time for a response after the first inning run from Altoona as Peyton Graham led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run off the scoreboard in right field to tie the game at one.
After a quiet second inning, the Erie bats came roaring to life in the third. Graham struck an automatic double with one out and Josue Briceño walked to put two on with two out before Thayron Liranzo blasted his eleventh homer of the season to give Erie a 4-1 lead.
Peña rebounded nicely after his first inning run. The lefty finished his outing with 4.2 innings of one-run baseball. He struck out four and allowed just four hits. Zane Barnhart entered from the SeaWolves bullpen and tossed an inning and a third in relief without allowing a run.
The SeaWolves continued to add on in the sixth. Four straight singles plated two runs, with RBIs from Max Burt and Patrick Lee. Graham reached base against Cristhian Tortosa on a fielder's choice to score another run. Lee quickly scored just after that on a wild pitch to make it an 8-1 Erie lead.
Patrick Lee cracked his third home run of the season to open the eighth inning. Then it was Josue Briceño that launched his third home run in three days to extend the Erie lead to 10-1.
Yoniel Curet finished the game off in the ninth with a scoreless frame despite allowing a leadoff single. Erie evened the series at two with the win.
The SeaWolves are back in action on Saturday at 6:05 PM against the Curve at UPMC Park. Max Alba has the start for Erie against LHP Connor Oliver for Altoona.
Single-game tickets, suites, picnics, The Club by Synchrony events, and Bud Light Party Deck groups are now available by visiting SeaWolves.com, calling 814-456-1300, or visiting the UPMC Park Box Office in person.
